What is the Basic difference between UPS and INVERTER?
Basic and major difference between Inverter and UPS is Inverter takes long time between changeover from Mains to Battery, typically the changeover time will be up to 500 milliseconds W
here as the changeover in UPS will be very fast between 0 to 15 millisecond.

Uninterrupted power supply :

The main AC which is converted into DC is constantly charging the battery. The output of the battery is fed to the Sine wave inverter and it converts DC to AC and this feeds the equipment. Since power out is always drawn from the battery, there is no time lag when mains swicthes off; it just stops the battery from being charged and the UPS continues to supply power till the battery runs out. UPS can be used for critical load such as Computer systems, Printers and any other electronic devices where Re-booting is not acceptable and the fast change over time will cover the time gap between mains fail and change over to battery.
Inverter :

The main AC which is converted into DC is constantly charging the battery. A sensor and relay mechanism checks whether the mains is ON or OFF. When the main switches OFF, the relay actuator triggers to switch from mains to inverter. Rest is same like the UPS. Because of this sensor and relay, there is a gap between triggering. Inverters are suitable only for basic lighting, Fans and TV, it cannot be used for Computer system or any other critical load such as Printers, Electronic devices since the system may reboot during change over due to high
change over time.
